Spirits of bondage is a subject of importance to Darren. He states, “I know it’s short but it is thoughtful and to the point.” So, here is this week’s book review from REDMOND’S REVIEWS.
SPIRITS OF BONDAGE A CYCLE OF LYRICS
For my next book I have selected to read and review, I have chosen the first book ever published by CS Lewis. It is titled, “Spirits in Bondage a Cycle of Lyrics.” This book written in 1919, was written under a Noms de plume of Clive Hamiktin. Which, derived from CS Lewis, it was his first name and his mother’s maiden name.
This is a book is not a book of prose but rather poetry. Each poem builds upon the subject matter of the previous one and is broken down into three different sections.
It may be important to note that this book was written partially at least, during CS Lewis’s time fighting in the trenches of World War 1. Additionally, this is also come a time before CS Lewis was a Christian. His subject matter and his approach to life in his writings is indicative of this.
The reader can see a slow movement toward Christianity throughout his writings even though he talks of Druids and fairies that exist in the forest.
This book often leans toward the darker or foreboding world rather than one that is optimistic in God’s grace.
This work is free in the public domain as are most of the books that I review
